Mission Summary

We're hot, sticky sweet, from our heads down to our feet.

All pilots sleepily arrived at the fort around 0200. The radiation had been pouring from the sky most of the night and as we arrived at the fort, the sky was erupting in heat lightning. As we arrived at the fort, we were met by questions like "Did you just get back?" from our ally civilians at the fort. We replied to this "Nay! We fly til dawn! And then...after dawn"

The battalion launched in the wee hours at 0300 still slightly groggy but bolstered with resolve to reach the ((island)). During launch, there was a little radiation and Skunk had faith in the Force that we would have a window of clear skies in which to view the day star rise. 12 pilots took flight along with maggots Pastry Queen and Tartheis.

We enjoyed the romantic lights of old Charlestown. Lordmcfuzz took us on an excellent meandering route as Castle Island is very close to base as the droid flies and we needed to ensure that we patrolled more parts of space. We orbited a black hole near the Rose Kennedy Greenway Constellation and admired the disembodied heads of the zodiac as well as the beautiful painted replicas of furry CBUs on the Greenway orbital warp module. The orbital warp module was sadly turned off for the night which put a damper on the desire of some to ride the module as they had as children.

After a few light years, the gang stopped at a Luna 7/11 to fuel for the night as we wouldn't have a chance later. Skunk lit the ceremonial incense on Cloudbuster and the gang enjoyed many delicious caffeine, chip and sandwich molecules, before launching again.

The fleet crossed the hyperspace byway to Castle Island before the Daystar rose. We landed and all hands set up their gear for our stay. Skunk and Everest deployed their anti-grav pods. Wombat arrived just as we were setting up camp. Faced with a lack of soft ground, Johnny Five boldly decided to set up camp on the cement and take a nap.

The gang hastened to get in Pose Formation so that F-Stop could make visual logs of our fine fleet as the Daystar rose. After making logs with still pilots, the gang and F-stop then enjoyed creating a montage of images of the gang riding by the fragments of the pre DayStar rays solo or in pairs. F-Stop created images for the visual log almost nonstop for two hours

The pre-Daystar rays were partially blocked by heavy clouds and the light was pale. Some were worried the rise of the Daystar would be a mediocre one.

They were totally wrong, as the Daystar began to rise, the clouds over Deer Island turned bright pink and the pink was reflected on the crests of the waves of the heavy nebula. The glorious colors created such a fervor in Everest that she felt the need for radiation therapy. She completely immersed in the nebula as the Daystar's rays gently touched the faces as the pilots looking up at the sky above.

The early Daystar's rays created interesting behavior in other pilots as well, Red Squirrel was drawn to explore nearby space on her ship and a few other pilots spacewalked around the pier. We will have to do more research about the influence of the early Daystar on pilot behavior. Currently, our data is limited.

After F-Stop assured the party that all hands were not needed for image logs, Pastry Queen proceeded to pulled out a griddle and a propane tank hidden among her gear and made surprise banana nutella marshmallow pancakes for everyone as her trial. The gang had a breakfast picnic feast of Pastry Queen's pancakes, hummus, pitas, espresso and tea from Skunk, Rice Krispies and fruit from Red Squirrel, and double stuff Oreos from Fuzz. Mostly alerted to our presence by the delicious odors emanating from our camp, Threespeed arrived to our camp with his midnight ride gang. They continued on without him and Threespeed joined the mission.

Many well motivated civilians admired Cloudbuster and other ships on their very early morning space runs. Skunk regaled a few of the newer pilots of with tales of the exploits of the SCUL armada in earlier days when Castle Island used to have low hanging roofs which ran the orbit of the island. New pilots listened in awe as Skunk told of veteran pilots flying over the roofs of Castle Island and of the ghostly phantom of WalTor's space underpants. Ah such grumbah there was then!

Later on, Everest and Deadbride were relaxing and enjoying Everest's new anti-grav pod when all of a sudden, a conduit snapped. This caused the anti-grav field to malfunction and the two pilots crashed to the ground. Fortunately, the pod had not been hovering too far off the ground so no one was injured.

Skunk, Red Squirrel, and Lordmcfuzz completed the lawn games objective by playing a spirited game of catch. Redeployment of the fleet was declared and as the fleet packed their gear, Red Squirrel and Skunk became distracted by an unusual avian creature which they tracked until realizing that it was time to depart.

The fleet flew over a hyperspace byway which bordered the heavy Atlantic Nebula. Skunk and Red Squirrel continued to observe any new or rare avian species. Once the fleet left Castle Island behind, the battalian entered the frontier of the Financial District. The gang enjoyed the eerie quietness of the Financial District on a Sunday. "No angry monkeys in suits today," Deadblow observed.

On the last leg of the journey Pastry Queen displayed her famous aerial feats on Princess Fun Police.

The battalion arrived back at the fort stronger in numbers than when it left. Our first voyage to observe and collect data on the Daystar rise was pronounced a huge success. Pilots returned to the fort and then departed to their own forts to return to their normal behavior which is to sleep when the Daystar has risen.
