Dawn Patrol: Sunny Side Up
- Fly to Head Island - the one we always used to call Castle Island - in time for the 06:02 sunrise.
- Get a great shot or two of SCUL with the sunrise in the background: this one's for the 2022 SCUL calendar.
- Have a picnic breakfast on the grass.
- Play lawn games.
Mission SummaryAt the darkest hour on 210829, eight pilots assembled on the launchpad. Darth Freighter was christened and maggot Cosima made excellent use of its oversized front cargo unit for flatbag and medibag. After pre-mission formalities the gang began to make its way off the launchpad, when a massive heavy transport the size of three sandworms barreled towards us. The fleet slowly engaged in evasive maneuvers, but this mammoth transport threw caution to the wind and turned sharply in a U shape around us, with little room to spare. The fleet fled with starlight in our fuel tanks, full speed ahead to meet the dawn.
Both SCUL flagships painted the streets with their lasers. Skunk rode Cloudbuster with sonic disruption blazing and Wombat piloted Syntax Error, taking care not to scratch that neon hull plating. The streets were quiet and the space travel went smoothly when we unexpectedly encountered radiation. We ducked under a large building overhang and made some minor cockpit and cargo adjustments til it blew over.
When we arrived at Head Island we quickly made contact with the earlier mission message transmissions chalked on the ground. Moments after landing at our destination we noticed bright white lasers from a transport headed straight towards us. Lordmcfuzz went to greet it. It was an intergalactic ST who reported the area closed due to an incoming triathlon. The fleet headed off in search of a new destination to feast on our food molecules and greet the rising sun.
A little ways up the wormhole on Castle Island proper was a grassy field and a fenced off pier that served our purposes quite well. Skunk and Dogi set up their hammocks, pictures were taken of the "sunrise", and we feasted upon the vittles. Cinnamon Brulee distributed bacon, Cosima and Skunk passed out apples and grapes, and Red Squirrel prepared bagels with cream cheese and sprouts.
After consuming food molecules, Gritty gathered extensive data regarding the heavy nebular transport activity in the waters around us. Finally we fulfilled our last mission objective when Cosima pulled out her flying air saucer on the open green. The saucer got such great lift it soared off into the air, over the railing, and onto the rocks below. Wombat ventured off to rescue it successfully. Wombat and Skunk swapped ships and the fleet headed home.
Throughout the mission many pirate puns were shared, no serious mechanicals occurred, many stickers were enthusiastically distributed, no injuries were sustained, and the funk was busted.
